Podcasting 101 – Transcript
Kamala Chambers:
Hey, I’m here to talk to you about podcasting 101 and how to run a weekly podcast in just four hours a month.
My name is Kamala Chambers, and I’m the host of the Thriving Launch Podcast with Luis Congdon, and we spend just four hours a month on a weekly show.
I’m going to show you the four things you need to know about podcasting 101 and to get your podcast up and running without wasting a ton of time on it.
Podcasting 101 – Have an Interview-Based Show
The first thing you need to know about podcasting 101 is to make sure you have an interview-based show. This means you’re inviting guests into your show, and you ask them questions. That way, your guests provide all the content, and you don’t even have to spend any time trying to figure out what you want to talk about or coming up with a bunch of different ideas.
And, as a side note, having guests creates a more dynamic podcast and can help you gain more fandom.
Podcasting 101 – Have An Online Calendar
The second thing you need to know about creating a podcast that’s going to save you time is making sure you have an online calendar where you can set times and have the guests to book themselves.
I can’t tell you how many podcasters I see wasting so much time going back and forth with their guests trying to find a time that works for them.
With a free online scheduler like Calendly, the guests can book themselves.
Podcasting 101 – Batch Your Interviews
The third thing you need to know about saving time with your podcast is batching your interviews. That means you have your podcast guests all scheduled on the same day of the month.
You can get through all of your interviews for the entire month by doing interviews back to back in one day.
Podcasting 101 – Have Your Podcasts Edited by Professionals
The last thing I recommend is to send your podcast episodes to an editing team. Unless you want to spend the time editing your show yourself, I suggest you let the professionals handle it.
I have done a lot of content on how to hire a team of your own at Thriving Launch. We produce podcasts, and there are a lot of great companies out there where you can get your show edited for you.
Some of the things to watch out for in editing is to make sure your editor can seamlessly mix together your files, and remove the unnecessary “um’s,” stuttering and pauses.
