How to Make Money Podcasting Through Sponsorships

One of the first ways on how to make money podcasting is sponsorships.

Sponsorship is when a company pays you to talk about their brand or their products. It’s just like a radio show commercial or a radio show spot where the host talks about some sort of product or service that they love. Companies are paying for that, and they’re spending a lot of money for that.

In fact, there has been some research showing that it’s starting to take a bite out of radio. Even New York Times saying podcasting is popping. They’re talking about this.

Sponsorships for podcasters are real, and some podcasters are making a lot of money with sponsorships.

How to Make Money Podcasting – Downside of Sponsorships

Here’s the thing.

  1. Sponsorships are difficult to land.
  2. They take a lot of pitching if you’re going to go out and pitch companies and try to get them to be sponsors for your show.

It’s not completely easy to land a sponsor. It’s because generally, you need a show that’s big, does a lot of downloads, gets a lot of clicks and a lot of people to your website, and has some guarantee of how many listens or how many views that company is going to get.

Then, you need to have a way to show the report and show the company that you’re filling on those numbers.

Now, if you don’t have that, it would be very challenging for you to land a sponsor and not only that. Now, you have a show that has these commercial spots and is challenging. I’m not saying don’t do it.

I’m just saying it’s a challenging spot, and it’s one of the first ways that most people hear about making a living with a podcast, but there are these other ways.

There are these other ways that are cool, and that’s what I want to talk to you about right now.

Sell Behind the Scenes Content

One of the ways on how to make money podcasting is selling behind the scenes exclusive content.

Maybe I’ll do a 20-minute interview with Jack Canfield, but the whole actual interview is 45 minutes. I can choose to only release 20 minutes of that interview.

Now, I have 20-25 minutes of an interview that is coveted, that is secret. And I can sell that to my members and my listeners.

Maybe I release a 15-minute interview of Robert Kiyosaki and me talking on our show. But the interview is 45 minutes.

During that extra time that I don’t release, he talks about the meatiest and the most fantastic stuff possible. Now, I can sell that back to my audience, and I can even create a monthly regular thing for them.

It could be something like this. “Hey listen, if you’ve enjoyed today’s interview with Robert Kiyosaki and you want to dive in deeper, we’ve got a special all-access pass. It’s only $19.99 a month. And you’re going to get exclusive interviews that we’re not releasing that you can listen to every single month.

We’ve got 25 more minutes of Robert Kiyosaki and I sitting down. We’ve got another 30 minutes of Jack Canfield and I sitting down. And we’ve got exclusive interviews with the top guy in the NBA, talking about how you can land a sponsor.”

Wouldn’t that be pretty cool? If you’re listening to the show, you think $19.99 is not much. You can start accruing a lot of people who will pay $19.99 as a regular monthly fee to have access to unseen, unheard stuff that is exclusive to members. So you could sell behind the scenes.

Offer Your Own Products and Services

How to make money podcasting

One of the other ways on how to make money podcasting is selling your own products and services.

Instead of selling a sponsorship spot or commercial spots, you can just sell your own products and services, and this hands down is what I recommend you should be doing. You can sell your own products and your own services.

Listen. It doesn’t matter what field you’re in. If you have a podcast, you have something to sell because you’re educating, training, delivering, and giving free content to the world that they’re absorbing through their phone or tablet in their car, on the bus, in the airplane.

Podcasting allows you to connect with clients in a way that’s unparalleled to any other platform.

The average podcast listeners are tuning for anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes up to five times a week to your show. That means they’re tuning in, they love you and care about you. And they care about what you have to offer.

At some point, you can say, “Hey listen. If you’ve been listening to the Thriving Launch Podcast, you know that we have all these amazing podcast interviews, and you know that our show makes multiple six figures a year.

We want to help you do the same thing with your podcast, and that’s why we’ve put together a five-day training to help you get started, launch, and profit to monetize your podcast. Head on over to thrivinglaunch.com if you want more.”

That’s an example. We do have that, and I’ll tell you about that later.

The idea here is you can offer your own services or your own training.

Offer Something Relevant to Your Audience

If you’re a health coach and you have a show about health or anything related to healthy that is targeted towards your audience. You can say to your audience, “Hey listen.

If you want to overcome health and you want to dial this in, you can log into my website. You go over to our website, and we have free seven-day healthy gut training for you,” or whatever it might be.

The idea is you offer your audience something to get them from being a passive listener listening to you in their headphones to looking you up on their phone or their tablet or their computer and giving you their email.

Then you deliver them some more content. From there, you can make a sale. You can make a transaction.

Earn With Podcasting With a Massive Network

Now, one of the other ways on how to make money podcasting is building a massive network. We have 350 plus interviews on Thriving Launch Podcast.

We’ve met Jack Canfield, Marianne Williamson, Bas Rutten of the UFC, Ryan Stewman, and Robert Kiyosaki.

The list is quite extensive of the people we’ve met. Because of that, now, we have a very long and robust list of people that we’ve networked with, and there’s leverage with that.

Those people that I’ve met, some of them turned into business partners. Some of them invite me to their events. Some of them hire me for my own services. So that’s one of the other things as you interview somebody. Next thing you know, they’re asking you about what you do.

Podcasting Elevates Your Status

Because if you host a health show and you bring on somebody, they’re excited about what you do, but you’re not just a health coach, you’re a health coach for health coaches.

Or you’re a business coach for health coaches, and you bring on this people onto your show. Now, there’s a potential that they’re going to become your client.

There’s a longer list on how to make money podcasting, but these are the top ways. I just wanted to focus on the top ways to make a living with a podcast because it’s possible.

Right now, you see this beautiful place in the background here. This is San Juan Island. I get to travel the world. I just bring my phone, I set-up a tripod, and I film.

And I use my laptop, and I record my podcast, and I travel the world. It’s incredible.

How to Make Money Podcasting by Hyper-Targeting

If you have a gift to share with the world and you have a podcast, you can make a living. The first way that you should be doing that is:

  1. Being hyper-targeted to who your avatar is, who’s going to listen to your show.
  2. Being hyper-targeted in a way that the people listening to your show are the people that you would bring on as clients, and the kinds of people that want to buy the product and services.
