The Benefits Of Being On A Guest On A Podcast

Maybe you’re wondering about the benefits of getting podcasts to help you and your business?

Let me show you a screenshot of a big win my friend and coach, Marc Mawhinney, had after going on just one podcast.

After one podcast guest appearance, Marc’s pipeline of leads and inquiries were flooded.

And if you’re not a coach, take a look at what copywriter, Ben Settle, said about the leads he gets from podcast guesting.

Being on podcasts is a great way to be seen and heard – and you don’t need big shows to get results.

Learning How To Be A Guest On A Podcast Can Change Everything

Being a guest on just one podcast can change everything.

After appearing on a tiny show, my client Abdul Gaddy made $5,000 from one podcast appearance – the show host bought his program right after the interview!

Another client that I booked on podcasts made $100,000 in book sales.

And you don’t even have to be on a podcast that has millions of listeners to see results.

So, now that we’ve briefly reviewed the benefits of podcast guesting, let’s dive into how to be a guest on a podcast.

How To Be A Guest On A Podcast – Step 1: Find Show That Categories That Fit Your Message

If you are unclear about your message,  learn how to be a guest on podcasts anyways.

You can just find shows that you like and clarify your message as you’re being interviewed.

Get some real-world experience. Being interviewed is a great way to hone in what you want to talk about.

While you’re interviewed, you can clarify your message (even if you’re a veteran or new, you can always hone your message more).

By appearing on shows, you can clarify your message, get asked the hard questions and refine your selling points (all for free since you pitch and the shows don’t charge you.)
Want to know how to find the perfect podcast shows that perfectly fit your message and business avatar?

First.

Open iTunes and Apple Podcasts.

Select the podcast category, just like this:

Second.

Go into iTunes Apple Podcast and type into the search bar your keyword or phrase that matches your message.

If you want to be interviewed on nutrition advice, type “nutrition” into the search bar.

I do a lot of content marketing so I typed content marketing into the search bar.

Just like this…

Most of the shows that came up from the search I did on content marketing are likely to be a great fit for me.

They clearly cover or have had guests on content marketing, which means they’re good for me to pitch.

Ever thought of having your own podcast? Here are some ideas.

How To Be A Guest On A Podcast – Step 3: Search For The Names Of People In Your Field

Third.

Go into the search bar on iTunes Apple Podcasts and type in the names of people who are in your field.

After showing my client, Jason Henderson,  he discovered hundreds of highly targeted shows he can pitch.

Since Jason is a highly paid copywriter, he now has an incredibly powerful tool to get more free publicity.

When Jason wants to go pitch podcast shows, he can type in the names of his competition and peers, and find a plethora of shows to be a guest on.

If you type in the names of people, you know that if they’ve been a guest you can use that as leverage to pitch yourself.

How To Be A Guest On A Podcast – Step 4: Make A List Of All The Shows That Seem Like A Fit

Fourth.

Now, go through and make a list of all the shows that seem like a good fit for the categories, keywords, and competitor’s names that you searched.

Before you pitch the shows that came up in your search, take a close look at the podcasts and scan their episodes.

Take note of the guests they’ve had, the length of shows, the number of reviews the show has on iTunes.

And most importantly…

Take note of how often their show airs as well as how long ago their newest episode aired.

If a show has had episodes recently, then you know that the hosts are actively producing new content.

How To Be A Guest On A Podcast – Step 5: Pitch
